Designing the Carbon Tracker app to help customers reduce their footprint

For Natwest Group | Private sector | UK | 2022

THE CLIENT

Natwest Group is a British banking and insurance holding company. The group operates a wide variety of banking brands offering personal and business banking, private banking, investment banking, insurance and corporate finance. In the UK, it owns National Westminster Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest Markets and Coutts.

THE CHALLENGE

After a successful soft launch at the COP26, designing the Carbon Footprint Tracker within Natwest banking app to enable customers to track their footprint and learn ways to reduce it. It includes working with tech partner CoGo to develop the feature backlog according to their own roadmap.

MY ROLE

As part of a strategic design team duo at Nile, my role was to uncover user needs and design features that meet their needs while nudging them to lower their footprint. It includes leading design and research activities, facilitating workshops with client team and partner, low fidelity prototyping, defining design recommendations after 3 rounds of user research and collaborating with internal UI and content designers for final designs before hand over to the build team.

THE OUTPUT

Based on the user needs, we developed climate actions personalised to the user in a way that first shows the next most achievable action in each spending category. We crafted wireframes to hand over to the build team and produced an insight report summarising user insights and design rationales for the solution.
